Sorry to hear about Griz. They don't live very long, do they? Our rottie died at 8.5 yrs of age of lupus. Glad to hear the "Kipweiller" puppies are living in peace. Don't be surprised if that garage door opens again one of these days and a puppy (a full-blooded one)slobbers its way out to meet you - I'm sure you have quite a reputation in your neighbourhood by now, sir!
