I had the worse cycle in my nine years last summer. I was also diagnosed in 1990. Previously, I always took a ten day dose of Prednisone/Verapimal. When it became ineffective, the doctor tried all sorts of meds, i.e. lithium, amitriptyline, lidocaine, depakote, etc. All the while, I used imitrex injections as my life saver. However, after about 6 weeks of lack of sleep and nonfunctioning, with no end to the pain in site, my doctor placed me in the hospital for 6 days. I was given a treatment of D.H.E. It is given intravenously and although it can be very hard on one's veins, it was not worse than what I was going through. Anyway, it worked. My next cluster is due in about 6 weeks. I am hopeful that I can go back to my old regimen and not have to deal the same ordeal. You may e-mail me if you wish. Good luck.
