Linda and Bobby G. are right. But before you go back to the doctor, ARM yourself with literature on CH. Mine always start with my eye swelling (that's right before the pain hits). The waking up at night with a HA sounds like Clusters, but you didn't say what you do when it hits. Do you pace or lay down?
The usual CHead will pace, scream, bang his head (or hurt himself). We can't be still until the pain subsides.
Get your fact sheets, then go back to your doc and make him listen to you. Good luck.
