You're exactly right. We NEED to remember our freedom.
The poem was beautiful. We just take our soldiers for granted and that shouldn't be the case. It brought a lump to my throat. I can remember the "old" guys sitting around the coffee shop talking about WWII and arguing about which one of them actually won the darn thing singlehandedly. My Dad was the loudest, so I guess he won by default. Didn't realize how much I miss hearing those stories (over and over and over) until I read the poem you posted.
Maybe this country needs to take a deep breath and think about what we do have instead of complaining about all the things we don't have. When I hear people saying they don't bother to go VOTE cause it won't matter, I see red! Oh well, that's another story - my patriotic soap box.
Thanks for reminding us what Memorial Day stands for.
