Have had CH for 31 years. Sometimes for several months of 1 or more each day or every other day. Then none for a couple of years. I have tried most everything. Imitrex always stops the CH after 5 minutes (I take shots, pills don't help me. My sister takes pills, Shots make hers worse). However, they tend to cause rebound CH in 12 to 24 hours. The last time I had a string of these CH, the doctor prescribed Prednisone. I had been having the CH for a couple of months. I took one 20 mg pill each day for 10 days and stopped. The migraines stopped for two years. The doctor should have had me taper off the Prednisone though, I had a bad sinus headache and was sick at my stomach for two days . . . but it was worth it. Tapering off would have been much milder of a withdrawal. But check this out! I was having trouble with central retinal vein bleeding in my left eye, and was put on 40 mg of Predisone a day for three months. On the fifth day after tapering off the Prednisone, I had my CH back again. From 17 Apr 99 thru today (3 Jun 99), I have had 33 CH. I tried going back on the Prednisone to stop them, but it had no effect, and now I'm tapering off again. I would advise trying Prednisone for a short time to see if it will stop the CH. It worked for me 2 years ago.
Good Luck.
