Hi Mike,
I have recently lost the central vision in my left eye due to a blocked vein in back of my retina (Central Retinal Vein Occlusion). When the vein gets blocked, it bleeds onto the retina and lays there until the retinal cells are killed . . . unless you're lucky enough for the bleeding to stop and the vein opens up again and the blood moves on (tried Prednisone, but didn't work).
But this happened two years after my past use of Imitrex and four months before my current use of Imitrex.
Does your sister have a real high cholesterol level. The doctors couldn't find anything wrong with me that could have caused my blockage, except I did have a cholesterol level of 263. I changed my diet (fat free everything), and got my level down to 186 in three months . . . no medicine. The doctor's said it was probably my cholesterol level, but that they didn't really know (Hershey Medical Center).
I just don't know otherwise why the blood would flow o.k. for her for years, and then all of the sudden not be large enough to support the blood flow needed for proper vision??????
Good luck to you and your friend. I know only partially how she feels. Being totally blind would be very depressing. I'm glad she has a friend to help her.
BE WELL!!!
Steve W.
