If you do start taking the Imitrex, I'd suggest the injection. The injections, for the most part, seem to work much faster than the other types. In my case, Imitrex aborts the CH in 5 minutes or less. I have never taken the pill form for a CH, but have for a migraine. In those instances, it usually takes at least a half an hour to get rid of. Because yours took 20 minutes to take effect, the pill or nasal spray would probably take longer.

Although my neuro did not have me go to the emergency room when I first started the Imitrex injection, he did suggest that I have someone present the first few times. I haven't taken an injection for a few months, but because of his concern, I always had someone present. (I also have epilepsy, so there were other worries.) I have very supportive in-laws who would come over at the drop of a hat to help. My husband works nights occasionally, and if he wasn't home, I'd make a phone call and someone would be there within 5 minutes, any time, even 2 or 3 am. The self-injections are very easy. It is not pleasant for some to "poke" themselves, but believe me.....the "poking" is a piece of cake compared to the CH! Also, the side effects of the Imitrex lessen a great deal after the first few shots. The first 2 I took----what a head rush!

Any questions, feel free to e-mail me.

Cathy
