Down here in Memphis it's $25 per tank at the medical supply houses. Sorry about your Big Apple pricing!! I could do better but my insurance covers it. I used to be a hospital administrator, and we paid less than $5 per tank (these are e-cylinders by the way, which give about 10 treatments at 7 l/m).

If you have a friend who works in the respiratory therapy department of a hospital, they can probably ask their supplier to give you a break.

I don't advise getting the really cheap oxygen from a welding supply company -- it's allowed to have impurities and some of them may be poisonous if you use it frequently. If you look at the catalog for welders' oxygen it says "not for human consumption" on it.

You might consider an oxygen concentrator, it's a machine that you could rent that produces 95 percent oxygen from the air in the room. Might work!
