Your doctor is flatly wrong to say Imitrix is not for clusters. DJ posted the link to the medical info, and I can tell you from experience that Imitrix nasal spray stops even the strongest clusters for me within 5 minutes. I couldn't believe the first time I used it; my headache was #8 and rising and then all of a sudden it was gone!
If prednisone was what broke my last cluster, it took seven days to work. I actually got worse, had my worst day, then the cluster ended almost instantly.
