The problem with pedantry and cluster headaches is that there is not yet any clear truth (other than the reality of our pain).

I think you are correct in your assessment of many things being involved.

WESTPORT, Nov 07 (Reuters Health) - Migraine, cluster headache and paroxysmal hemicrania are best described as neurovascular headaches because they are promoted by events in the brain. "The term 'vascular headache' should be consigned to the dustbin of history because it ignores the crucial role that nerves play," according to Dr. Peter J. Goadsby, of the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, London, UK, at a session on migraine pathophysiology.

Several studies have demonstrated, Dr. Goadsby emphasized, that blood flow remains reduced after the aura is finished and the headache has started. Vasodilation cannot be the sole explanation for the pain.
