I still remember the jerk MD who actually laughed in my face when I tried to tell him about going to bed at 10:00 p.m. and waking at 11:30 p.m. with a headache so bad that it was completely impossible to describe the agony. “You got to bed feeling fine and wake up with a headache?! That’s a good one! You need Alcoholics Anonymous, not a doctor!” His appreciation of my “comedy act” didn’t keep him from charging me $80.00 for a half-hour of his time. And this was in 1979. That $80.00 was probably something like $175.00 in today’s money. I was working as a security guard for minimum wage and, needless to say, had no kind of health insurance. And he didn’t even bother to prescribe anything. Just sent me on my way.
