I believe there is a link. Maybe not for everyone, but could be a trigger for those of us that have whatever is needed for clusters and an allergy. I started exactly like you, twice a year and during high pollen times. I am also allergic to almost all pollens. I think only negative was a juniper tree. Fortunately, my clusters have changed and only get once a year now. Last year was spring, this year not till end of June.
