Donald,

You have made an EXCELLENT point. I'm amazed at the
paucity of replies.

Several months ago I inquired of the board whether
anyone besides myself had experienced the onset of
symptom following viral infection...specifically,
the Zoster Virus (shingles.) My own onset was but several
days following my only bout with shingles. I got no
feedback at that time (maybe nobody else ever had
shingles.)

The likely reason for all the excitment over the recent
brainscan findings may relate to the link between the
hypothalamus and circadian physiology, as that might
help explain the tendency for REM sleep disruption.

But, like you, I'm only "somewhat impressed" with the
implications of the brainscan research, and I hope that
these finding won't cause further studies into iatrogenic
or exogenous etiologies to be sidetracked.

I don't wish to imply that there is an absolute, single
factor that we all have in common (etiologically,) but
I do fear that the brainstem "pathology" described by
the good Doctor Goadsby may be too simplified and
"perfect."

I hope that the number of replies to your inquiry
will soon be augmented, and I support your petition
to edit the original questionaire on this website so
that it includes more in depth medical history.
