Try not to beat yourself up if Bryan won't take responsibility for himself and his illness. At AA we say, We can't carry the alcoholic, we can only carry the message". I think the same applies here.
I can't say as I blame him if others are treating him the way you say they are but he still has to pull himself up and do what he's gotta do.
