Also I wanted to say that, on the slight chance that I am on to something here, it would explain why laying down sometimes helps for me. "Simulating" sleep could ease the transition for Mr. Hypothalamus, sort of like easing up on the gas, or whatever.
And, conversely, when those of you excersise and dance to help your headache, it could be that you are increasing brain activity, and thereby not giving the Hypothalamus a chance to click back off again.

Or perhaps my hypothalamus was just put in backwards!

Anyway, I should also say that when I get a really bad one, even laying down is out of the question, I just walk and talk a lot, and try to concentrate on other things.
