I have often suspected that verapamil, which I have been very satisfied with, on the whole, does drag out the cycle. However, as you mentioned, the severity is lessened of any breakthrough headaches I might have while taking the verapamil. Another thing I have noticed is that after I feel like my cluster is over (usually I know it's over if I haven't had a headache in 3 weeks) and I take myself off the verapamil, I always have what I call a "so there!" headache...just one lone SOB that seems to lag behind all the others, waiting for me to stop the verapamil so he can smite me with his friggin' cluster sword and shout, "So there!"
