pleased to see DJ's experiment w/blank subject lines
puzzled though -
about 1/2 the responses seem to be vigorously protesting things I didn't even say, or stranger yet, reacting as though I said exactly the opposite of what I did
(I went back & reread my post several times, not the smoothest, but pretty clear)
really wish people would read more carefully before going off on tangents
I didn't say anything about what anybody should post - just suggested that we be considerate enough to use the subject line to abstract our message content - big difference !!!!!!
re: my "chatty" post reference - I didn't say don't post 'em, I suggested not everybody wants to read them - just like not everybody wants to wade through any one of a dozen things - again, big difference
(the only thing I can figure is there are some egos out there who think everybody is somehow obligated to read everything they post, no matter what it is - - remember free speech includes the freedom to ignore the speech too)
some of you apparently resent the suggestion that there should be any control or discipline at all in how we use these kind of exchanges -
I can only guess that is from lack of experience in using them-
maybe I should restate my general premise:
IMHO-
if we all use a little more common sense, consideration and deliberation in how we use these extraordinarily valuable services, we can AVOID having too many rules and controls
personal independence and anarchy are NOT the same thing
NOT telling anyone what to post
just suggesting a little consideration in HOW to go about posting
that's all - but it's apparently a lot
