Unless you have a history of easy bleeding I suspect your docs are being too cautious. I've been on Indocin for 15-yrs and had major (5-hour surgery) 3 yrs ago; this question never came up.
Stopping 3-days prior makes sense to me. Indocin has a short half-life, that is, it clears the body rather quickly and so you should be safe by following the 3-day suggestion.
