It must be extra tough to be facing a surgery too, hope it winds up going well for ya!
I never had my CH's switch sides, but once when I started a round of lithium to prevent them it seemed to move the headache over toward the middle a bit, and changed how it felt. Fortunately, after a few days the lithium worked and I didn't have another CH that summer. Wish I knew a good answer to give you, but I'll send up a prayer or two instead.
