just read your responses
it is now midafternoon, a predictably slow traffic time on the 'net
that means fast response time

re: CH msg bd:

if I right click each msg topic
then click on "open in new window"
the messages are opening INSTANTLY,
as fast as I can read the index & click the ones I want

that proves it ISN'T anything at DJ's end -
if it were, we'd ALL be having trouble

then, click each one closed when done reading & right click to "open in new window" the next msg you want to read

leave the main page, with the message index open the whole time

there are several ways to open, browse & retain web site pages , some are fast some slow you down

Nancy - would be happy to help coach you on this, BUT you don't put your email address in your posts for some strange reason, and I don't think we should tie the board up too much with "how to use your computer" stuff

BELIEVE ME - at certain times it is so slow I just give up , BUT that is the general traffic load all thru the 'net OR in the local telephone switching used by the ISP

example: the weather radar service we use takes anywhere from 5 seconds to a minute or more to load, depending on 'net trafic loads

ALSO -
for what it's worth - we got rid of AOL 2 years ago because it was so slow & cluttered in trying to get to stuff "outside" the AOL world,PLUS they keep piling updates onto the user's computer that have nothing at all to do with the "real stuff" on the 'net - just enabling it to do more of AOL's own silly, fluffy entertainment stuff

and it made all the difference in the world - and all for the better

my daughter uses AOL, on an older computer, and has nothing but trouble, lots of time it won't even connect - this is because the AOL system takes an IMMENSE amount of memory and process time in the user's computer, and many just aren't up to handling it quickly

in my opinion, AOL is kinda like McDonalds:
it's easy
it's everywhere
it's a no-brainer
but the PRODUCT itself really sucks
