This is an idea that is being kicked around between Bernie, Elaine and myself these days. Now, your kids are probably too young yet, but your letter is the kind of letter that gave birth to this idea.
Our idea is to have a Supporters Program for Kids, where kids who have CH parents can talk to other kids in a similar situation. We feel Heather, Elaine's daughter, would be excellent to head it up and that kids would prefer talking to other kids that go through what they do, rather than an adult "talking down" to them. Bernie's daughter struggles with the scariness of CH and I'm sure she's not alone. For those of us in two parent families, quite often the supporter parent will shield the children from witnessing much of the actual attacks (which is the case in my house) but in the single parent families this is pretty much impossible. Wouldn't it be great if we could direct these kids to other older kids who know how to deal with the fear and the feeling of helplessness?
Any thoughts, family?
