Something you said in your post really concerns me about your relationship with him. You are a Christian and pray, and he is an atheist and laughs. How healthy can that itself be for the rest or your life? What happens if you have kids? Is he going to not want them going to church? Before you make a committment, look at the ENTIRE picture, and weigh it all. Look at everything now, and then think of it 20 years from now. Could you still handle it? If not, counseling is definitely needed. Not just for him, but for both of you as a couple. Don't take these things litely. Decide them now, before the ring is on the finger.
Patty has her days. There are times that I could tell her I have a cure, and she would want to bite my head off, but I look past that. But, those times are very limited. She may not agree with all my opinions, but she will listen to them, and make an informed decision. Relationships survive through constant and willing communication. If you can't have that, move on.
Just my opinion, but opinions are like butt holes; everybody has one!
