Tim
I'm no specialist, but I would think that chiros are like everybody else - som good, some bad, some downright quacks. My personal experience is both bad and frightening. I developed severe pain in my lower back and left leg, had x-rays done and the radiologist said it was prolapsis. Went to a chiro, he looked at the x-rays and told me it was not a real prolapsis and that he could fix it. 3 visits later I was worse and ended up in hospital. The doctor told me I had a massive prolapsis and that an immediate operation was neccessary. He also said that the chiro treatments could have made me paralyzed for life.
That doesn't mean all chiros are verbose ducks. Just be careful, ask a lot, think, get second opinions.
Luck to you
Erik
