Hi Bill-
I'm a 16 yr long 'rightsider'. Have never had an actual attack on the left, but i often get shadows on the left side during periods of remission. I keep assuming that one of these days, the left side is going to get hit, but, like you, I hate to waste the meds and take meds that I might not need, so I suppose I'll not treat the leftside shadows until one finally becomes full blown.
