Melvin:
1) I applaud your doctor for referring you to a neurologist. To me, personally, that's a sign of a good dr. who is pro-active and advocates for his patients. I get the impression that he/she doesn't think he/she can help you anymore. A referral to a specialist is the correct step.

2) Going to a neurologist is necessary. I don't know your $ situation, but if your health is important to you, you will find a way to swing it.
I am sure there is a neuro out there who would let you work on an "installment plan" to pay off your bills. I know my dr. would. You may need to make arrangements first, however, perhaps with the help of your present dr.

3) If you are willing to pay out the money you have mentioned for "illegal drugs" than, IMHO, you should be able to handle paying for a neuro visit(s) and any medication. I guess the question I always ask myself is "What's more important----my health or money???" Well, money always loses by a longshot.

Like I said, this is my opinion. I know it is not everyone's....

Cathy
