Atenolol, which is a beta blocker, does help some clusterheads. BUT, you should never take a beta blocker together with a calcium blocker, like Verapamil. They are both primarily designed for high blood pressure. That one or the other or both happen to work for some people to control cluster pain is just a lucky side-effect and does NOT mean that both can be safely taken at the same time. My doctor made me wait two weeks, just to be on the safe side, before switching me from Atenolol, which doesn’t work for me against clusters, to Verapamil., which - THANK GOD! - does.
