Dear Jim
First of all, my thoughts and prayers are with you in your struggle to get through this latest cycle. To answer your question, my friends mom was determined to have become dependent upon the cafergot, and was denied further prescriptions to be given another med in it's place. I should mention that this was about 20 years ago and her mom was taking the cafergot suppositories for migraine and not clusters. What made me so sad is that I know that she only used the cafergot in times of the pain and did not use it at other times. To have taken from her, her only means of relief, I think, was cruel and merciless. She ended up getting herself in trouble for the deceptive ways in which she found to obtain the cafergot once it was denied her by her doctor. She now looks like the mere shell of the woman she once was, and her own family (including my friend, her daughter) has dismissed her as some kind of worthless drug addict. My heart aches for her while at the same time fears the same future for myself. If only the greater evil and/or harm could be understood; that the danger of addiction might have far less tragic ramifications than the danger of losing the will to live in the face of such horrible pain. I hope that your doctor is able to continue helping you through your pain.

All my best to you,
Jackie M.
