I agree Gary - lots of what we talk about here is not mutually exclusive and we often seem to get off track when we haven't bothered to define the discussion - whether we are talking about predisposition, root causes, contributing factors or triggers. Throw in someone's anecdote to discredit an hypothesis and we never seem to get off square one.

It brings to mind the discussion of the hypothalmus and the good English Doctor's findings. As seductive as an enlarged hypothamus might be as a one and only root cause and the Doctor's claim that these things are not really vascular, I am not convinced. Why is the enlarged hypothalmus inconsistent with the vascular part? Wy can't they both be integral to clusters. After all, all of us who suffer from these things know first hand what effect vasodilators and vasoconstrictors can have on our well being.

I have no answers and I am not even sure what questions to ask but I think we all need to think critically and be open to anythng, even when it contradicts our own experience.

We need to add a healthy dose of skepticism when any one claims to have the answer - even if that someone is a renowned Dr. - after all didn't they once tell us that Ulcers were due to an inability to handle stress and Schizophrenia was due to bad mothering.

I better quit while I am ahead.

PS - my various theories over the years regarding root cause goes something like this( in no particular order ):

sinus infection following a cold

serotonin imbalance due to non-funcioning circadian clock

allergic reaction from seasonal change in light

head trauma

oxygen deprivation brought on by poor sleep

and finally - payback from up above for sins in a previous life
