for years they've been cutting nerves on people, which in effect "deletes" the pain transmission
problem is it also deletes (usually all) sensory function and greatly screws up muscle tone,etc
very POSSIBLE to end up looking like a gapemouthed slobbering moron, who can't feel anything from a bee bite to a grandchild's kiss
lately there are reports of a new technique where they do basically the same thing with lasers or microwaves, supposedly the accuracy is much betterm they claim far fewer sideeffects etc
VERY new - still a LONG way from solid info re: problems & success over time
ALSO several people have reported it didn't accomplish shit

I am ALWAYS leery of a Doc with a new toy to play with
USUALLY most of their info comes from the "technical consultant" (salesman) from the CO that makes the new device
give it 10 years or so
if they're still doing it,and have clearly achieved high success rates and low sideeffects - go for it then
but unless you are literally on the edge of death from these things (and usually we are FAR from that, even though it doesn't seem it during a bad attack)- let someone else be the guinea pig
