Hi Jan and Kellie,
Naratriptan (generic name) is marketed by Glaxo under different trade names around the world (Amerge in the US, Naramig in Europe, etc.). As usual, it was developed for migraineurs, who use it as an abortive. As it takes 30 - 60 minutes to kick in it is of no use as abortive for CHeads. However, because of its longer lasting effect, we can use it as a preventive to get us trough the night, as Michelle C. said. As my attacks a damped down well by Verapamil, I usually can get through the night with half of a 2.5 mg tablet.
With the effect lasting 6 - 8 hours, it would need 3 or 4 tablets a day for a 24h protection. With such a high dose, the side effects would be rather heavy, and I would not like to take that risk.
Thanks Jan for caring so much and my best wishes for Kellie,
Ueli
