Hi,

Saw your question on seratonin and foon and what in the world is this stuff all about. Seratonin is a chemical in the brain that can affect just about every part of your nervous system including your moods and sense of well-being, depression, etc. I have been a health nut and nutrition buff for quite some time and have learned a great deal on my own time studying about what seratonin can do and the lack there of. My aunt went through a gammet of incredible physical problems of various types and finally after about 10 to 20 years found out she had a chemical imbalance of seratonin. She was placed on an anti-depressant that basically saved her life as we were perplexed after much testing as to what the problem was concerning her weight loss, lack of appetite, sleeping problems, panic attacks, etc. You name it, she had it. I myself as an heir of her body chemistry have had a few problems with severe depression myself. So . . . I started my research. Diet and nutrition is essential in controlling seratonin from dropping to a low-level in the brain and causing havoc in your system. Foods such as pink salmon, turkey, wheat bread, are all good for seratonin as well as dopamine and other chemicals in the brain. Basically a well-balanced diet and exercise helps tremendously. Reducing stress is always a benefactor. The more we push to run and run faster and pile more on our plate, the more the body goes in to a "fight or flight" mode. Look up depression in a health food store nutrition book and you will learn a great deal about what natural causes are linked to brain chemicals running amuck simply by life and diet and nutrition. My personal experience has been to totally focus on the fact that I am not super-woman, don't have to be super-woman, and must remind myself that it's o.k. to say "no" that's not good for my life, my schedule, my health, whatever. Most importantly though, my very personal relationship with Jesus Christ has saved my life when I have fought with problems of depression and other brain-chemical happenings. He is all sufficient, saved my life from a penalty of sins by death, and gives my GREAT HOPE and excitement for my future, even in the midst of great travail. Give Him a chance, He's the great Physician. Hope this info. will help.
