I had had good luck with cafergot, taking half a supository at the onset of an attack. I didn't always get right back to sleep, it stopped the pain in a relatively short time. The doctor wanted to put me on verapamil and the day after my first 180 mg was a nightmare. I have assumed that if I take verapamil (a vaso-dilator) and cafergot (a vaso-constrictor), my system doesn't know whether to tighten up or open up..... The key is that this is what happened to me... If we were all the same we'd all be treated and respond to the same meds. I didn't have luck with the combination. However, the verapamil by itself has been a great relief. 180 mg daily and after the first week of attacks that never really developed... I've been HA free....
