I've been doing that on and off for years. Noticing the sensation, whether it be pulsating, burning, whatever, and then asking myself why I put that sensation in a category of "pain" and why it is something I dislike rather then putting no judgement on it. The effect, when I do this successfully, is that my brain no longer tells me that I'm suffering -- although the sensations don't dissipate, or, the pain goes away and the throbbing in the eye is all that's left. It is also helpful to realize when going through these that everything in life, including the HAs, are temporary conditions and will pass.
