When I was an undergraduate, I tried to learn everything I could about altered states. (Can anyone relate?) I was already pretty educated and experienced with the chemically induced states, so I learned what I could about hypnosis, biofeedback, meditation, self-hypnosis and the like. Now that I've been battling these HAs for 7 years or so, I have found that all that learning has come back to help me in the ways that you have discussed, re detachment, out of body, and trying to experience the terrible pain from a less subjective state. Not easy. And as well as it may work to help me sometimes, I'm not at all "above" using any med to make it easier on me. I may be a little enlightened, but not stupid or masochistic.
Best to all. Looks like a good fishing day tomorrow.
