I'm aware that benefits have been hit and miss; however, I stopped taking melatonin in 96 after angioplasty. I had been taking 0.5 mg at night to regulate sleep. I can't swear to it, but I think I was pain-free for about six months while taking the stuff. I have been out of remission for a month, averaging 4-8 attacks at Kip levels 5 & 6, being awakened within an hour of falling asleep. Last night I took 3 mg of melatonin before bedtime. I woke several times with nightmares but went right back to sleep. I am tired today but have not had even a twinge or a shadow. It may be coincidental, but you can bet I'll be taking another 3 mg at bedtime. Wish me luck please. I've read the postings and materials on melatonin and know better than to jump to conclusions, but I'll take what I can get.
