I don't know if this is what you are refering to, but when I first started getting these 15 years ago it would be preceded by the same visual effect of snow blindness. No peripheral vision in at least one eye and having to really get close to something to be able to make it out. And even then, it would be hard to see it correctly. Over the past year and a half, this has come back (after being gone for 10-12 years). But now, although it is a rare occurence, it can start without a headache coming on, happen during the HA or start after the HA passes or passes most of the way.
