I have seen the shooting stars only a couple of times, and was during actual headaches. I'm a chronic sufferer so I have no period of remission except when I'm on medications. The times I did have the stars were during especially nasty headaches and I'm pretty sure it was when I was blowing my nose or sneezing. I have always had a very good sense of smell even before the clusters started, but I have not noticed odors starting headaches (I have seen in the medical literature that smells do trigger the headaches in a lot of cluster patients, though).
