Yes, Dr. Jannetta's operation is big time surgery.
He does do it for Clusters though. It involves (brief description) cutting the skull open above/behind the ear with approximately a "quarter-sized" hole which is later filled with an epoxy.
The Blood vessel that wraps around the offending nerve is then manipulated and a teflon pad is placed between the vessel and the nerve to keep them apart. This is to keep the vessel from putting pressure on the nerve. Success rate is, to be blunt, so-so.
So, it's off to Houston. I hope it stays warm and not too windy, as in hurricane season.
The Doctor in Houston that I'm seeing is Dr. Matthew. His Neurosurgeon's name is Dr. Hurt. ;-(
