Several years ago a local man died scuba diving on home brew nitrox (air enriched with O2). Unacceptable levels of carbon monoxide were found in both his scuba tank and the O2 tank in his garage. His O2 source was the Miami Welding Company. Medical O2 does cost more but it's supposed to be purer.

It's been so long since I bought my setup that I don't remember the cost but exchanges on my E tanks are $25.00 and I get 8 to 10 sessions per tank. Check the yellow pages under medical supplies for a medical store in your area and make sure you get a full non rebreathing mask ($10.00) and a regulator that goes to at least 10 liters/minute. It's also better to rent at first, O2 does not work for everyone.
