Have him sleep w/o a pillow during his episodes
No neck or head elevation at all
When and if the pain starts, try a warm to hot shower concentrated on the back of the head and neck area.
My wife can sometimes massage the pain by very gently going from the top of the eye socket to the side of my face to the neck area. Note: He'll know right away if this will work, if it doesn't don't be upset.
I've taken a headband and stretched it over my eye and put in a warm washcloth under it for some relief.
The back doctor:Didn't do anything for me on the headaches but my co-workers say I have nice posture and no one has told me " sit up straight" lately. LOL
