I think the quote you are remembering is from Dr. Arne May. He states, "The pain of cluster headaches is perhaps the most severe known to human beings. Women who have had such headaches describe each attack as being worse than childbirth."
I believe the quote was from an article in the July 1998 Lancet. I am not sure of the year. However, I will check on that. Thank you.
