there's something in the psych books related to this - I think it's called selective (euphoric) recall

one theory I heard was that it is in part to promote reproduction - on the idea that if a woman TRULY remembered the birthing, we'd all be only chilren (sounds good anyway, eh ?)
also why my Dad (80) only seems to remember the "good stuff" about his Depression farm childhood and a few long years in the SoPacific in the mid 1940s......

as to CH -
one technique that makes the whole thing bearable is to try to USE this principal to isolate the relatively brief minutes of pain from the rest of the day/attack interstices/remissions - the CH beast CAN be defanged if we split it into small enough chunks that we can forget the last second of pain, or the last attack

it's very SIMPLE but VERY HARD -
which means anyone can do it if they want to badly enough

takehome:
don't give the pain a second more of your life than it already has, and what's left of life looks a lot better
