Actually, when I reffered to a similarity in tone between this board and conversations I have witnessed in Mensa, I had in mind more than just the quality of writing. Although the quality of writing here is clearly above average, there are other similarities. I think mensans are often somewhat socially inept if not downright anti-social. Their conversations are often characterized by a kind of insecurity resulting in a need to "prove themselves," even to a prequalified peer group. They are sometimes antagonistic to their peers (fellow club members) and challenge others' right to "belong." I have often seen them very interested in further defining degrees of qualification among themselves. Besides quality writing, I have seen a lot of this sort of behavior here. I don't know if it is a function of keen intellect, or the result of isolation in experience. Anyway, its just something to think about between visits from the beast. Here's to pain free days for all!
