I'm not sure if Alitalia does this, but other European airlines do, especially Lufthansa. They will plan a special 'charter' type flight to Las Vegas just to get the airplane here. Pilots are required to practice 'touch and gos' on a regular basis, and the longest civilian runway in the US is in Roswell, NM. So, the fly the people to Vegas, drop them off (yes, they land first) then the crew takes the plane to Roswell for their practice, then back to Vegas and back home. Check into it...it might even be cheaper for you to go to Germany first just to get in on this.
