I was diagnosed with cluster headaches by a male nurerologist, but it was a female medical doctor at the er that told me I was not having a migraine and that I needed to go to a nuerologist. She found it very strange that I had never been diagnosed accurately before. She said that my red face, weepy eye and blood pressure should have been a tip off to someone. I wonder how many other people do get misdiagnosed(not just people with cluster headaches) because of their gender? I know that women have and maybe still do have the problem of being misdiagnosed with heart disease because that was a male medical problem. I think that there is more awareness about this now. Some men have been known to suffer from breast cancer, and there was a case a few years back where a man died from it because it was missed. Maybe in another 10 years it will not be a given that cluster headaches is primarily a male disease and the statistics will be altered.
