My doctor has always told me to taper off after 3 days. I normally use 60mg for 3 days, 50mg for 3 days, 40mg for 3 days etc until I'm at 10mg which I stay at until I break the cycle. Then I try to taper off by decreasing 1mg per week until I'm at 1mg and then its 1mg every other day for a week, 1 every third day for a week and then quit totally. I have a real hard time tapering off prednesone without the CH's comming back. I don't use it any more after being on it for 3 years trying to taper off. Hope this helps.
