I agree with Drummer. I have the utmost respect for what you are going through and how you are trying to find answers for your son.
I, years ago, worked with autistic kids and I have seen this behaviour as well. One little guy, Francis, who was the same age as your son would repeatedly turn on all the lamps in the room and sit underneath them to stare at the bulb - seeming to try to get as much light as he could. Or he would stare directly into the bright sunlight and would get very agitated if we tried to stop him. He also tried to smash his forehead into yours at different times and you had to be really careful because he would really hurt you if he contacted. Back then, we knew nothing of clusters but Francis was extremely agitated and violent when he would be doing these things. It was hard to tell if he was in pain because of the autism.
I know this isn't much help to you in determining if your son has clusters but I justed wanted you to know I've seen those occurences (wanting light and forehead bashing) with autism before. Francis was constantly pounding his head on things as well. Sounds like you've got a pretty good doctors on side though and Drummer has given you some excellent advice on the meds.
Best of luck to you and your family. Peace be with you.
Margi
