43 YO now. I remember them since my early twenties. Fought them with Anacin and didn't know what to call them. Pretty regularly yearly but not as severe, in fact I don't really recall the duration. About 1984 the interval stretched to two years, and got severe enough that I know for sure they lasted almost exactly 4 weeks. Diagnosed in 1989.
February 1995 (4 week episode). Nothing until July 1998. Today was eight weeks. I had a "normal" 5 week episode, although I think it was clearly the most severe in terms of number and severity of HA's. 2 weeks off, and now I am back in a 1 a day.
So, for me it seems like the farther between, the more severe the episode. Kind of like the beast needs to feed.
