Sansert is the only med I've taken for clusters. It won't cure them, stop them or prevent them but, for me, it cut the pain in half. I've taken it daily for 3 months and have had no side affects. I am a smoker and my neuro knew that when he prescribed Sansert. Your post is the first time I've heard that Sansert and smoking don't go together. Sansert can cause problems in organs if taken long enough. But so can breathing the air in LA. By long enough, I mean 6 months or more without a break of 6 months. Please have a talk with your neuro about long term affects be fore taking any medication.
