I'm no doctor or scientist, but IMHO, the demon strikes at night only after you reach REM sleep, which I believe to be the deepest state of sleep and the only state in which you also dream.
It's possible that the meds you are currently on, or your emotional state of being, may be delaying your attainment of REM, which typically occurs about 1 to 1 1/2 hours after falling asleep.
This could account for the 'delayed' visits of the demon.
